iPad 3G Soon Able to Make Cellular Calls and Send Text Messages?
According to Egyptian website iPhoneIslam, 3G-enabled iPads will soon be able to place regular calls and send text messages, just like an iPhone. The video above shows a jailbroken first generation iPad 3G running an app extremely similar to the iPhone phone app, and surprisingly, the device indeed seems to work.
iPhoneIslam doesn’t offer many details about the hack, except the fact that it will “change the game”:
Can you imagine turning your iPad to a fully functional phone. With No Special Hardware all what you need is Jailbroken iPad 3G and your iPad 3G will do anything you expect from iPhone… Phone Calls, SMS, FaceTime by Phone Number… ETC
While the app shown on the video could very well be nothing more than an hoax, note that iPhoneIslam proved to be reliable in the past, as the team behind the site released the very real FaceIt3GS hack several months ago.
The app, called PhoneItiPad, will allegedly be available on the Cydia Store very soon – you will need to jailbreak your iPad if you want to give it a try.

Apple Supply Chain Not Able to Satisfy iPad 2 Demand?
I hope you’ve already braved the long lines and staggering wait times to get your hands on an iPad 2, because according to Taiwanese news site DigiTimes, Apple’s suppliers may not be able to continue to satisfy supply demands from Apple. This could potentially affect future shipments of iPad 2 and iPhone 4 orders.
Apparently, Foxconn Electronics, a key Apple supplier, is facing shortages of labor and materials at its factories in Chengdu, China and may be unable to keep up with Apple’s increasing sales.
From the article:
“Commenting on the rumor, Foxconn only emphasized that the company’s capacity is being arranged fully at the request of its clients and the company will do all it can to satisfy its clients’ needs; however, the company declined to comment whether the labor shortages will cause delays in shipments. Foxconn emphasized that it has experience arranging manpower to assist its clients in reaching their goals.”
Apple estimates continued growth of iPhone and iPad sales, eventually reaching 20-22 million and 10-10.5 million, respectively, in the second quarter of 2011. This puts significant pressure on upstream assembly partners, Foxconn and Pegatron Technology. While Foxconn planned on an annual capacity of 40 million units, Japan’s earthquake impacted component supplies that go to the plants in Chengdu, which may impair their ability to supply Apple with the 2.5-3 million iPad 2’s per month that Apple is projected to sell.
It’s tough to get an iPad 2 even when they are in stock, but wait times have recently gone down, from 3-4 weeks to 1-2 weeks. However, when and if supplies dry out, expect those wait times to rocket back up and those lines to get long once again. If you’re waiting to get an iPad 2, it may be wise to get one now before demand outreaches supply even further.

greenpois0n RC6 out, More Stable, now Able to Jailbreak Apple TV
About 10 days ago, the Chronic Dev Team released a fairly stable version of their untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1, dubbed greenpois0n Release Candidate 5. Several users had issues with the jailbreak, and had to install it several times to get it to work, which prompted the team to release a new update earlier today, unsurprisingly named Released Candidate 6.
The new version is compatible with both Mac and Windows, and offers a more stable jailbreak process. Best of all, greenpois0n is now able to jailbreak the second generation Apple TV, in order to install third party software such as NitoTV.
The jailbreak is compatible with iPad, iPhone 3GS, fourth generation iPhone and iPod touch, and second generation Apple TV running iOS 4.2.1. Note that the jailbreak proved to be pretty stable, but in case you need some help, check out our walk-through here.

greenpois0n Release Candidate 6 can be downloaded here. As usual, remember that jailbreaking your iPad is legal, as long as you do not install/use copyrighted content obtained illegally.
